La Cachette B&B is close to Sarlat and Domme, in the heart of the Perigord Noir region of the beautiful Dordogne. Situated in an elevated position, overlooking the village of Grolejac with wonderful views down to the Dordogne valley. The river Dordogne winds its way past the village.
This region is known as the Perigord Noir because of the black truffles found here and the dark oak trees which appear black as the sun sets.
Chateaux and medieval fortresses perch above the river Dordogne and yellow standstone villages cling to the rock faces. The style of houses has not changed for centuries. Bastide villages have survived complete with their medieval market halls. Many village fairs and markets take place around the village squares where you can purchase walnuts, foie gras, chestnuts, cepes, in fact anything that is grown locally and is in season. Good country food is served in the restaurants with regional dishes of foie gras, canard and noix cake on the menus.
La Cachette is in a perfect position being close to medieval Sarlat, Domme and a short drive to the riverside villages of La Roque Gageac and Beynac. Rocamadour is an hours drive. Historic bastide villages, chateaux, picturesque villages clinging to rock faces, prehistoric caves with paintings and grottes with underground river, these are just a few of the attractions to explore in this beautiful region of France.
Locally, the village of Grolejac offers; 2 restaurants within walking distance, a large lake safe for swimming with a sandy beach, an excellent cycle path which follows the river valley with bike hire available, canoe hire on the river Dordogne and a tennis court. There is a golf course and horse riding facilities close by.
