GROLEJAC VILLAGE & OUTDOOR PURSUITS IN THE AREA

Locally Grolejac has plenty to offer:

RESTAURANTS
Within walking distance there are 2 good restaurants in the village, one with a bar and one on the lake.  Also a Pizzeria and a bar serving meals/snacks. The next village of Carsac (3km) has 3 restaurants and a bar and many more restaurants in medieval Sarlat, Domme, Gourdon and the surrounding villages.

LOCAL SHOPS IN GROLEJAC
Grolejac has a mini supermarket which is convenient if you want to purchase items for a picnic. Next door to the supermarket there is a bakers (with excellent cakes!) and also a butcher where you can purchase pates and cold meats. We have a picnic basket available for our guests to take out with them, or for snacks on the terrace.

CYCLING
An excellent cycle path starts in the village and follows the old railway line. We have 2 bikes which our guests can hire (additional bikes can be hired in the village). You can cycle almost into Sarlat, or take the route along the river valley towards Souillac (16km), there are 2 bars & restaurants and picnic sites on the river at Rouffillac.

Also there is a new cycle route which connects from the cycle path towards Gourdon in the Lot (11km). This velo route uses very quiet country lanes and passes through lovely countryside and small hamlets. You can stop at the pretty village of Payrignac where there is a restaurant/bar opposite the lake.

WALKING
There are many opportunities for walking in this region. We have a number of walking route books for guests to borrow. There are also country walks direct from La Cachette without having to get in the car.

SWIMMING
Grolejac has a large lake in a beautiful wooded setting within a 5 minute drive (also walkable). There is a sandy beach and swimming is possible. There is a small charge from the middle of June to end of August of approx 2 Euros per person, outside these months entrance is free. Alternatively you can swim in the river Dordogne from one of the many beaches.

New for 2009 is a nature walk through the marshlands adjoining the lake, following decked walkways with bridges and seating. You can also hire boats and row yourself through the marshland waterway.

CANOEING
There are 2 canoe hire companies operating in Grolejac. The river is a good way to see the area, passing many chateaux, castles and riverside villages enroute. There are beaches where you can stop for a picnic. You do not have to worry about rowing back, the hire company collect you from your chosen destination and transport you back to your car at the starting point.

TENNIS
A tennis court is in the village.
